Captain’s Log, Day Fourteen
June 1, 2022
Captain’s log, day fourteen of our first real retirement voyage. Although we aren’t totally retired. And except that I am not the captain.
And this is hopefully being published today because the captain hauled his cell phone up the mast so that it could get better service and I could hot spot my computer from it. He’s a creative guy.
Today was uneventful overall. The captain did however remove his stitches. That was probably the biggest excitement. He did it with his left hand being that the stitches were in his right.
And believing that would be more successful than me doing it with my right hand. He’s probably correct. If I injured myself I could probably count on him to stitch me up in a neat way; he’d be more likely to sew himself up with either of his own hands than let me do it.
Have you seen “Master and Commander”? Great movie based on a book set on a British Navy sailing vessel in the 1700s. In it, the ship’s doctor has to pull a musket ball out of his stomach without of course any anesthetic because there is no one else he trusts to do it for him. He has someone there to hold a mirror for him and hand him the knife etc but basically, he operates on himself. I feel like my captain could do that too. But let’s hope it never comes to that.
We took a picnic to the shore and lay in the sun; it was idyllic. The dogs were puzzled about why we would lie around drinking wine and doing nothing when we could be walking down the trail but we had already done that.
We did all the things today: ate, read, walked, and motored around the bay. Good times.
