Captain’s Log Day One

Captain’s log, day one of our first real retirement voyage. Although we aren’t totally retired. And except that I am not the captain and today is day two. But I will report on day one for now, since day two is not over yet.
We left our marina in the afternoon yesterday, day one. That was to accommodate the tidal current at the pass we intended to go through. Because our boat is very slow a significant current can render us pretty much unable to move at all. And although going slowly is a bit of a pain in the ass sometimes, our boat is economical to run. Our marina neighbour was telling me that the cost of gas for them for one weekend was going to run to $2500. Our boat can run four hours a day for 55 days for significantly less than that, using diesel fuel and a 1929 engine.
Anyway, off we went. Our first stop was a pretty bay we had been to many years ago After choosing a nice spot with secure hold for the anchor we took the dogs ashore. This was the moment they had been waiting for.
Our recovered street dog Kali is most concerned when we leave the dock. She wanders the boat looking for where land should be. She’s done enough boating now to know that the way off the boat once we have left the shore is going to be at the stern, where she gets to climb into a dinghy and be rowed or powered to a beach.
