Captain’s log, day sixteen of our first real retirement voyage. Although we aren’t totally retired. And except that I am not the captain.

Today we stayed at Gorge Harbour Marina. We walked the dogs lots. It rained prolifically for part of the day.

As the day progressed the marina filled up. One of the first boats to come in nearby was a luxury yacht that pulled in at the dock next to us. It makes us look like a toy boat in comparison. That boat is worth millions; probably to charter one for a week is about the same as buying ours outright. Strange.

A fella that once worked on our boat in a shipyard came by and he and his partner had a walk-through and a chat; he talked about the work he had done on the boat way back when. A boat this old (almost one hundred) has a lot of history. It’s not uncommon for people to come and tell us a story about them or someone they knew having a connection to the boat.

This couple was also commenting on the number of people who aren’t really familiar with boats who are buying them to live on because they have nowhere else. These are 20 or 30-ft boats you can pick up for a couple of thousand dollars. Some need lots of work, but most can provide a dry place to sleep. They anchor them somewhere and unfortunately don’t always maintain them and…
