Captain’s log, day ten of our first real retirement voyage. Although we aren’t totally retired. And except that I am not the captain. And actually, I am writing this on day eleven. Because of an alcohol-related incident.

On day ten which was May 28th, we headed out of the Copeland Islands into Thulin Passage, a narrow waterway which lead us into Desolation Sound. We didn’t have a clear destination but we made the decision en route to head to Squirrel Cove, on Cortez Island.

It turned out to be a lovely calm and sunny day for a voyage. We arrived at about 12:40.

The first task after anchoring was to take the dogs ashore. Once again we have a small island close by perfect for a short shore wander. We lazed about in the sunshine on the warm rocks before taking a turn about the bay in the dinghy and returning to the mother ship.

Somehow we passed the afternoon doing almost nothing. Mid-afternoon, sitting on the back deck I had the brilliant idea that I should make us a fancy drink.

One of our daughters had bought me a cocktail book and a shaker for a birthday a few years back. I bought a few of the fixings and sometimes look in there for a fun drink. What I settled on was a Negroni. It’s a drink with a lot of alcohol in it. A lot. Gin, vermouth and Campari…
