Captain’s Log, Day Thirty

Captain’s log, day thirty of our first real retirement voyage. Although we aren’t totally retired. And except that I am not the captain.

We left Hornby Island and set out for a journey south anticipated to be several hours. Which we turned into nine. Not because of any breakdowns or anything exciting, but the anchorage we had picked for our stopover point ended up being too exposed and the weather a bit too iffy to give me a good night’s sleep.

So we kept going. And stopped at the first place we anchored on our way to starting our voyage, so that was kind of fitting. Now that we are close to home I am wishing we could stay away longer. We had thought we were able to stay another week before heading back but it turns out two of our sons need us.

As the first long retirement voyage for the two of us, we learned a few things.

  1. We still like each other. A lot. And we don’t get bored or annoyed with each other. Well, hardly ever.
  2. It’s not too hard to pack enough food. Especially if you realize you won’t get scurvy if you don’t eat as many fruit and vegetables as you do at home. There are a couple of things we ran out of that will be easy enough to bring more of next time.
