Captain’s Log Day Three, Part Two

Captain’s log, day three of our first real retirement voyage. Although we aren’t totally retired. And except that I am not the captain.

Today was eventful. We had been debating in the morning whether to move on today or stay another night in this delightful anchorage. Events of the day evolved to encourage us to remain.

We did not eat breakfast but we had coffee as is necessary. Not without some excitement. The camp stove kind of caught on fire and the Captain used a shirt to put it out. Not the shirt he was wearing, and it’s still in fine condition. He did repair the stove later (it leaked somewhere) but it was a bit of morning drama.

After our coffee, we got into the runabout with the dogs for a trip to the land. Our goal was to find a spot to go ashore in proximity to a trail so the dogs could have a bit of a wander. Much of the shoreline is rocky and covered with oysters and barnacles. It can be a challenge to find an easy place to scramble out of the dinghy.

Around the corner, we thought we’d found a good spot. We clambered to the top of the cliff and discovered the trail. It turned out to be a nice one and while walking we encountered folks who encouraged us to walk the whole way so we could see the beaver pond and the lily pads. So we did. It was a lovely…
