Captain’s log, day twenty-eight of our first real retirement voyage. Although we aren’t totally retired. And except that I am not the captain.

We set out today for Comox Harbour from Manson’s Landing, expected to be about four hours. It was interrupted however by the engine’s water pump impeller breaking. In case I didn’t tell you, the engine on our boat dates to 1929. Yes, almost one hundred years old. Always been in this boat; a thing of beauty. A museum piece almost. But still running like clockwork. Mostly.

Anyway, a piece of the water pump broke so the Captain, my Captain had to fix it. While we drifted, safely. It did make me nervous so I tried to do a short meditation. The man leading the meditation that I was trying to listen to kept telling me to stop thinking about what was going on in the world around me. This was not very successful. I kept looking out the window to make sure we weren’t drifting for the rocks or about to be run over by a cruise ship or ferry or something.

Anyway, the Captain did the trick. He’s not just handsome but handy.
