Captain’s log, day twenty-eight of our first real retirement voyage. Although we aren’t totally retired. And except that I am not the captain.

We continued on our track for home with a stop at Ford Cove on Hornby Island. It’s a small spot with a government wharf and a fair bit of room to anchor and is fairly protected.

Our trip here was pleasant; calm waters and no broken bits on the boat.

There’s a small grocery store at the top of the wharf where I picked up some eggs, asparagus and one perfect pear. The pear graced a plate with some old cheese and a few crackers for our afternoon snack.

We wandered the dogs ashore several times during the day, and noted that the store was a source of frequent activity.

The docks have nesting boxes on many of the pilings. These are to encourage purple martins, a kind of swallow whose numbers had been decreasing. A concerted effort to provide more spaces for them seems to be having a good impact. My photo does not catch the action, but there were a significant number of them flying in and out of these and chirping with glee.
