Captain’s log, day twenty-six of our first real retirement voyage. Although we aren’t totally retired. And except that I am not the captain.

We finally left the Octopus Islands to head for Rebecca Spit, another marine park on Quadra Island. It’s also a lovely anchorage but much closer to civilization. The shore on one side is dotted with houses, a government wharf and the ferry dock. There are typically more boats here and as well the beach and park are accessible by car. So there are lots of dog walkers and nature lovers who find their way here. Many more people than in the park we have just left.

The dogs loved the trails at the shore. We also motored over to the government wharf and walked along a couple of quiet streets.

I made a batch of rolls to eat with our chilli for supper and we passed a quiet evening as usual.

The arrival of cell service along the way was both a relief and a sad reminder of how much we’ve come to depend on…
