Captain’s Log Day Two

Captain’s log, day two of our first real retirement voyage. Although we aren’t totally retired. And except that I am not the captain. But today really is day two.

We got up at 6:30 a.m. This is not something we do often unless there is a really good reason. Like going to work or to catch a flight or watch a baby be born. We actually believe that 6:30 should not happen twice a day.

But again our day revolved partly around travelling through a pass (area of water) at a low ebb so we wouldn’t be washed ashore or something. That’s why we timed our departure when we did. For those of you unfamiliar the ocean has these tides and currents and stuff that you have to pay attention to.

As it turns out, it was beautiful early in the morning. Quite pleasant in fact. So it wasn’t terrible to get up then after all. We made coffee (strong) and set off.

We got to the Salish Sea, where it turns out there was a rock and roll thing happening. It is not unsafe but also not pleasant. After a while, I began to regret eating the egg salad sandwich I made us as an easy breakfast.

The boat movement was enough that if I hadn’t made the sandwiches when I did we probably wouldn’t have had them. Moving around was not easy or pleasant for a while. Navigating around the boat required…
