I am so sorry that you had to balance your incredible sorrow at the same time as investing in joy with your grandchildren. I have experienced something similar and it is indeed difficult. The laughter is always tinged with a lingering sadness. Sometimes as you point out that is the choice we have to make. We can't let down those we love by death no matter how hard it is.
