It was very hard to watch my son cycle through addiction and mental health challenges during his life. Before he relapsed more recently, he had been clean for four years and reconnected with family and friends. We have so many good memories from that time. Since my son died I have heard from so many folks who have family members like him with addiction and mental health challenges. It is all too common a story. And truly there are no real easy fixes to so many of the related problems including the housing shortage we face where I live, the lack of treatment beds when people are read and the lack of safe injection sites etc etc.
