Rant of the Day
Life is still not fair
Here’s my tirade, rant whatever you want to call it for the day.
Even though my parents said to me repeatedly when I was growing up that “life is not fair” (and I have gone on to say that to my kids) I believe that things should be more equitable than they are.
On a global scale, it seems wrong that simply being born in certain parts of the world can relegate a person to a shorter life span perhaps peppered with spells of hunger or actual starvation before they die. Or maybe being a woman born in a country where you aren’t entitled to education and have to live as someone with fewer rights than your male counterparts. Gay in a country where acting as yourself could land you in jail or worse.
I am privileged. Born white, cis-gendered in a country that is considered one of the better places to live in the world. Good universal health care, a democratic government, and good odds for long life. Arrived into a family that was not wealthy but by the time I came along had enough of everything.
My anger at the world today is not for myself, or even those in the other places on the planet. It’s directed at some of the humans in my communities. And it’s related to how some of us are assholes, and the nicer ones of those are still sometimes inconsiderate and intolerant. Those are the…
