The province of British Columbia, Canada, where I live decriminalized the possession of up to 2.5 grams of "hard" drugs such as heroin and cocaine in January of 2023. I used the wrong word when I said legalized. It is different than decriminalized. But the result is that people can use them in their homes or many places in the community and there is no consequence. It is part of a three year trial and is related to the deaths to the toxic drug supply we have here. It was hoped that decriminalization would prevent deaths as folks could get their drugs checked, or get help without being fear of charged criminally with possession. Unfortunately so far the deaths remain a constant.
