This story shook me to my core on so many levels. The US's unbalanced justice system, the disproportionate number of people in jail, the death sentence. It's all deplorable in a country that should do better. And your struggles as a mother to balance such important work with the love and care for your children. Not to mention your disintegrating marriage and your husband's addiction. I can't imagine the trauma you have lived through as you worked with people whose lives have been so damaged probably many of them since they were young themselves. And then knowing you couldn't save them. And going home to try to rebuild your own family. Thank you for sharing this story.
