Yes, depending on where you live labels help gain money for the student for school support, various kinds of funding sources for intervention and even many resources for those in post-secondary institutions. Unfortunately, we can't just meet people's needs without the label but we seem to have set things up this way. And yes, the reverse side it that people make assumptions based on the label sometimes without knowing the person behind it at all.
